When booking any travel reservation, be it hotel, rental car, etc. Remember to communicate with the company. For example, when renting a car in Europe there were so many things to consider. I did a ton of research online and was comfortable I had come up with the best deal. I had a few questions that I could not find the answers to online so I called the 80o number. The agent answered all of my questions and then he actually offered to look up the reservation and see if I had really found the best deal. We ended up getting our sat nav at a quarter of the price, and he got us a better rental rate. We saved $300 just by giving him a call and asking!!
Also, if you are booking a hotel, especially if it's a special occasion, an email to the hotel can go a long way. When booking our hotel for our most recent trip to Paris I really wanted to make sure we had the room I saw online so I popped them an email. The manager got back with me immediately and assured me I had booked the right room. We traded emails a few times and when we arrived at the hotel they had given us the only one of those three rooms with a balcony and a direct view of the Eiffel Tower. Sitting in that room with the doors open, curtains dancing in the breeze and watching the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower was amazing. So, make sure to email and ask questions. Also, let them know if you are planning something special, they may be able to help you with more or better ideas. - Tega

One of my favorite ways to research a trip is Googlemaps. (please don't comment on how much you hate it if you do, also, it's silly if you hate it.) Ok, back to travel tips. So, you go to Googlemaps and search the area you are traveling to. Turn on the picture function. On the right you should have a dropdown that lets you look at traffic, weather, webcams and photos. These are photos that other people have posted from that area. It's a great way to see what the hotspots are and treasures other people have found. I found Burg Hohenzollern and the castle in Frankenstein, both in Germany, this way. Sometimes I look around even if I'm not planning a trip. There are some really beautiful pictures on there. Anyhoo, give it a try and see what hidden gem you stumble upon. - Tega
![]() I believe a company should be rewarded when they treat customers fairly. Sixt rental car does just that, no hidden charges, no ridiculous deposit rates, just great cars at great prices. We rented a BMW 3 series with a navigation system for our European trip. We traveled through 5 countries. Every other rental car company wanted to charge us ridiculous deposit amounts for this, one wanted to charge a $3,000 deposit!! Not only did Sixt have the best rates on our rental car, they didn't charge us a deposit at all. When we asked about this, the rental agent assured us there was no deposit, she just smiled and said jokingly, "If you don't bring the car back, we have your credit card". Love it!! Now, I'm not promising they wont charge you a deposit, but I'm sure if they do it will be fair. The rental office at Munich airport was incredibly easy to find and the process was a breeze. Dropping off at Charles De Gaulle in Paris was not quite as easy (you have to return to the location at the terminal you will be departing from which wasn't very clear, but we found it). Driving through Europe we saw Sixt locations everywhere, even in smaller towns where no other car companies were located. It was comforting knowing that if there was a problem, a location was close by. Sixt has 1,846 locations worldwide, and has now expanded to the US. So, if you are renting a car in Europe (which I highly recommend), use Sixt. - Tega |
